The Child AuDHD Paradox

Understanding why so many children have both Autism and ADHD - and why it's often missed.

Routine vs. Novelty

The Autistic side craves predictability and routine. The ADHD side is driven by a need for novelty and stimulation. In children, this can look like meltdowns when routines change - but also restlessness within those same routines.

Why It's Often Missed

ADHD traits can mask Autistic traits and vice versa. Until recently, it was not considered possible to diagnose both in the same child. This leads to incomplete diagnoses and support strategies that only address half the picture.

The Hidden Cost

Children living with unidentified AuDHD often experience anxiety, school difficulties, and social challenges. Standard advice for just one neurotype often doesn't work. Understanding the full AuDHD profile is key to the right support.

A Hidden Population

30-50%

Studies indicate that 30% to 50% of Autistic individuals also meet criteria for ADHD.[1] In children, this overlap is even more pronounced - yet many receive only one diagnosis, missing half the story.

The Identification Gap

Many children wait years on public lists for a single-condition assessment, let alone an integrated AuDHD evaluation.

Educational Impact

An accurate AuDHD diagnosis unlocks access to appropriate school supports, SNA access, and reasonable accommodations.

Service Barriers

Public CDNTs face significant backlogs. Many families wait 2-4 years for an initial assessment appointment.

Documentation Matters

For DARE applications, ADHD reports must be less than 3 years old. A combined AuDHD report covers both from day one.

CHILD AuDHD ASSESSMENT FAQ'S

Everything you need to know about our combined Autism + ADHD assessment for children.

About the Assessment

What is a child AuDHD assessment?

It's an integrated pathway that assesses both Autism and ADHD together, so your child doesn't end up with half an explanation or two disconnected opinions.

Who is this assessment for?

Children under 18 whose parents or guardians suspect both Autism and ADHD, or who have received one diagnosis but still feel the full picture is incomplete.

Why assess both together?

ADHD traits can mask Autistic traits and vice versa. Assessing both in an integrated way gives a coherent, complete profile rather than two fragmented ones.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can register directly for our waitlist - no referral letter needed.

Yes - our service is 100% confidential and all data is handled in line with GDPR.
