Online Pre-Assessment

A 90-minute online session to understand your child's history and current concerns, and confirm the AuDHD pathway is right for them. No GP referral needed and no obligation to continue.

ADI-R Developmental & ADHD Interview

Straight after your pre-assessment we send a set of standardised questionnaires along with QbCheck, an objective computer-based measure of attention, activity and impulsivity that your child completes at home on a laptop. Your named assistant psychologist is on hand if you need support with it, and you don't need to wait for these to be finished before your interview is booked.

Your psychologist then takes you through one combined session of up to three hours: your child's full story from pregnancy and early years through developmental milestones, then the Autism-specific and ADHD-specific questions. We do this as a single conversation rather than two separate appointments because the background is shared, and because a proper conversation gets a richer picture than a form ever will.

In-Clinic Assessment

A child-friendly, play-based session using the ADOS-2, alongside a structured observation of attention, activity and impulsivity in the room. Your child's QbCheck results are reviewed alongside what we see. Sensory-aware and paced to your child, not a clinical conveyor belt.

School Observation

An assistant psychologist visits your child's school and observes them across more than one setting, usually classroom time plus a transition or break. School is where challenges most often show up, and this gives us real-world evidence no questionnaire can provide.

Final Report Presentation

An online feedback session with your psychologist, plus one integrated report covering both Autism and ADHD, structured as background, Autism findings, ADHD findings, then a combined formulation with clear recommendations for home, school and therapy.

Cognitive Assessment: included when it's needed

We don't run a cognitive assessment as standard. An inattentive child will underperform on timed tasks in ways that tell us little, and testing a child to the point of failure sits uneasily with a neuro-affirmative approach. Where there's a clinical reason for one, your psychologist will recommend it and explain why, and it's already covered by your fee, with nothing extra to pay.

About the Assessment

What is a combined autism and ADHD assessment?

AutismCare's child autism and ADHD assessment, also known as a child AuDHD assessment, is a combined pathway that assesses both Autism and ADHD together, so your child doesn't end up with half an explanation or two disconnected opinions.

Who is child AuDHD assessment for?

Children aged 6 to 17 (we can’t book this assessment for children under 6) whose parents or guardians suspect both Autism and ADHD, or who have received one diagnosis but still feel the full picture is incomplete.

Why assess autism and ADHD together in children?

ADHD traits can mask Autistic traits and vice versa. Assessing both in an integrated way gives a coherent, complete profile rather than two fragmented ones. Also, carrying out a combined assessment as opposed to two separate ones is less of a strain on both the parents/guardians and the child.

Do I need a GP referral for a child AuDHD assessment?

No. You can book your pre-assessment directly using the calendar above. No referral letter needed.

What is QbCheck?

An objective, computer-based measure of attention, activity and impulsivity that your child completes at home on a laptop. It gives us hard data alongside what we observe and what you tell us. It's included in your assessment at no extra cost.

Will my child have a cognitive assessment as part of a AuDHD assessment?

Only if your psychologist recommends one. That's a clinical decision, not a financial one. Most children on this pathway don't need one, and where they do it's already covered by your fee.

Do I need my child's school's permission for the school observation in a AuDHD assessment?

Yes, and we handle that. Once you consent, our team contacts the school directly to arrange a convenient time. Schools are generally very supportive, as the findings feed into the supports they'll be putting in place.

Our clinics are in Rathfarnham, Dublin 14. The school observation takes place at your child's own school, wherever that is.

Yes. Our service is 100% confidential and all data is handled in line with GDPR.
