FAQs About Autism Therapy
What can I expect from autism therapy sessions?
Our therapy sessions are designed to be person-centred and goal-driven. You can expect a supportive and understanding environment where we work collaboratively to address your individual needs and goals. Sessions may focus on areas such as improving communication, managing sensory sensitivities, developing social skills, or navigating daily challenges.
Do I need to have had an autism diagnosis with AutismCare to access therapy?
No, you don't need an AutismCare diagnosis to start therapy with us. Many of our clients come to us seeking support who have had an assessment elsewhere and that's totally fine. We look forward to supporting you moving forward.
Do I need a formal autism diagnosis to access therapy?
No, you don't need a formal diagnosis to start therapy with us. Some of our clients come to us while they're in the process of assessment or simply exploring whether they might be autistic. We're here to help you, regardless of where you are on your journey.
How is therapy tailored to adults with autism?
Our approach recognises the unique strengths, challenges, and needs of autistic adults. Therapy is tailored to your specific goals, whether that's building confidence in social situations, improving emotional regulation, or developing strategies for work or relationships. Sessions are collaborative and respect your lived experiences as an individual.
Do I need to purchase a certain number of sessions to start?
While we set you up on a recurring payment structure, you can start with one 1 hour session and go from there. You can also cancel at any time.
Is therapy suitable for late-diagnosed or self-identified autistic adults?
Absolutely. We work with many late-diagnosed or self-identified autistic adults who are seeking support in understanding themselves better, navigating life transitions, or managing specific challenges. Our therapy sessions are inclusive and respectful of all experiences.
Can therapy help with anxiety, stress, or burnout?
Yes, many autistic adults experience challenges related to anxiety, stress, or burnout. Our therapy sessions can provide tools and strategies to help manage these challenges, improve well-being, and foster resilience in everyday life.
Can I bring a friend, partner or family member to the session?
Yes, you are welcome to bring a friend, partner, or family member to your session if it makes you feel more comfortable or if you feel their presence would be helpful. We encourage open communication and can include them in the session to support your goals if that's what you prefer. This can be discussed in advance to ensure the session meets your needs.
