A comprehensive guide to your assessment session and how we create a supportive space for understanding your unique neurodivergent profile
Your assessment session is a collaborative conversation designed to understand your experiences and identify your support needs. This isn't a test with right or wrong answers — it's an opportunity to explore your neurodivergent traits in a safe, validating environment where masking isn't necessary and your authentic self is welcomed.
You'll receive your Zoom link via email on the day of your assessment. We recommend logging in 5-10 minutes early to test your technology and give yourself time to settle. Choose any quiet space where you feel comfortable — your bedroom, living room, or any area that feels right for you.
You can join using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. While having your camera on helps us better understand your communication style, we recognise this isn't always comfortable. Let us know if you need your camera off, and we'll adapt our approach accordingly.
You can use a laptop, tablet, or phone. Your comfort is our priority — camera optional, breaks welcome, no masking required.
Sessions typically last between 90 minutes to 2 hours, though this varies based on individual needs. Your psychologist will guide you through different areas of discussion at a pace that feels manageable for you.
Speak aloud, type in chat, use prepared notes, or combine methods. There's no pressure for eye contact or immediate responses.
Request a pause anytime to process, regulate, move, or rest. Your comfort and wellbeing are our priority.
We view neurodivergence as a natural variation in human neurology, not a deficit to be fixed. Our assessment focuses on understanding your unique neurological profile — both strengths and support needs — without measuring you against neurotypical standards.
"We won't ask you to suppress stims or 'act normal.' We understand that masking is exhausting and that many adults have spent years hiding their authentic selves. This is a space where you can unmask safely."
Your natural ways of moving, communicating, and being are welcomed here. Whether you need to fidget, avoid eye contact, take processing time, or communicate in alternative ways, we'll adapt to support you.
Many people find it helpful to speak with our team before booking. No pressure, no commitment — just honest answers from our clinical team.
That's perfectly fine. Some questions might not resonate with your experience, or you might need processing time. You can say "I don't know," "I need to think," or "Can we return to this?" We can rephrase questions or approach topics from different angles.
Many people mask automatically, especially in new situations. Our assessors are trained to recognise masking patterns. We'll gently create opportunities for you to relax these strategies, but there's no pressure. We can identify autistic traits even when masking is present.
We explore developmental history, but we understand memories can be incomplete or unclear. We work with whatever information you have. Family input can be helpful but isn't required.
There are no right or wrong answers. We're not trying to catch you out or prove you're "not autistic enough." We understand that autism presents differently in everyone, especially in adults who may have developed complex coping strategies.
Many autistic adults, particularly women and marginalised genders, have received other diagnoses first. We take an autism-informed approach that considers how autistic traits can be misinterpreted as anxiety, depression, or other conditions.
