What VHI Healthcare typically covers for autism services

VHI's day-to-day benefits can include money back for psychology, occupational therapy, and speech & language therapy depending on your plan.

Psychology / Assessment Benefit

Autism assessments by PSI-registered Clinical Psychologists typically fall under your psychology or mental health benefit. Check your Table of Benefits for "Psychologist" or "Clinical Psychologist".

Occupational Therapy Benefit

OT sessions are typically covered under day-to-day benefits. VHI plans may list a set amount per visit with a maximum number of combined visits per renewal period.

Speech & Language Therapy Benefit

SLT sessions are also typically covered under day-to-day benefits. Look for "Speech & Language Therapy" or "Speech Therapist" in your Table of Benefits.

Benefit Limits by Plan

Benefits are only paid up to the limits shown in your Table of Benefits. The euro amount per visit and the number of covered visits can vary significantly between VHI plans.

Important: VHI benefits vary by plan and renewal period. Your exact refund amount and number of covered sessions will be listed in your Table of Benefits. Log into MyVhi → Check my benefits or search your plan for "Psychologist", "Occupational Therapy", or "Speech & Language Therapy".

No GP Referral Required

A GP referral is not required to claim for psychology, OT, or speech & language therapy sessions with VHI. Simply pay for your session, get your receipt, and submit your claim through MyVhi.

How to claim VHI back for your AutismCare services

Submit claims through MyVhi online or the VHI App. Here's exactly what to do after your assessment or therapy session.

1

Book Your Assessment or Therapy Session

Choose from our autism services: Adult Autism Assessment, Child Autism Assessment, Occupational Therapy, or Speech & Language Therapy. All delivered by registered professionals.

AutismCare clinicians are PSI-registered (Psychology) and CORU-registered (OT & SLT) — meeting VHI's provider requirements
2

Attend Your Session

Complete your appointment. Adult assessments are delivered online. Child assessments use a hybrid model (online + in-person at our Rathfarnham clinic). OT and SLT sessions are scheduled based on your child's needs.

3

Get Your Receipt

After each session, you'll receive a detailed receipt from AutismCare. Our receipts are designed to include everything VHI needs: client name, date, clinician details, registration body, service description, and amount paid.

For multi-session assessments, you'll receive a receipt after each individual session
4

Submit via MyVhi Online

Log into MyVhi or the VHI App and submit your claim. The process is straightforward:

1. Log into MyVhi or download the VHI App
2. Go to "Submit a Claim" or use Snap & Send
3. Upload a photo or PDF of your receipt
4. Enter the claim details and submit
5. Track your claim status in MyVhi
Prefer post? VHI also accepts claims by post — just keep copies as originals may not be returned
5

Mind Deadlines

Submit your claims within VHI's required timeframe. Best practice: submit after each session while receipts and details are fresh. VHI processes claims efficiently through MyVhi.

Submit claims within a reasonable timeframe as defined by your VHI plan terms — don't let receipts pile up

VHI Healthcare + AutismCare: Common Questions

It depends on your specific VHI plan. Plans typically list a set euro amount per visit (for psychology, OT, and SLT separately) along with a maximum number of sessions per renewal period. Log into MyVhi → Check my benefits to see the exact figures for your policy. For example, some plans may cover €40–€75 per psychology visit or €25–€50 per OT/SLT visit.

Yes — many VHI members successfully claim for telehealth and online consultations. AutismCare's Adult Autism Assessments are delivered fully online by PSI-registered Clinical Psychologists. The key requirements are that the clinician meets VHI's provider criteria and that your receipt includes all required details. Submit through MyVhi just as you would for an in-person visit.

No. A GP referral is not required to claim for psychology, OT, or speech & language therapy sessions with VHI. You can book directly with AutismCare and submit your receipt for reimbursement.

Yes. AutismCare autism assessments are conducted across multiple sessions. You receive a separate receipt for each session, and you can submit each one individually to VHI. This is often the best approach, as VHI plans specify a benefit per visit — so each session is a separate claimable event. We recommend submitting after each session to keep things simple.

Many VHI plans include occupational therapy and speech & language therapy as part of day-to-day benefits for both children and adults. AutismCare's OT (€89/session) and SLT (€89/session) services are delivered by CORU-registered practitioners, meeting VHI's provider requirements. Check your Table of Benefits for the specific cover amounts and visit limits on your plan.

If your VHI plan's benefit amount doesn't fully cover the cost of your assessment or therapy, you can still claim the partial amount back. Every little helps. You may also be eligible for tax relief on medical expenses (Med 1 form via Revenue). Additionally, if you're approaching your renewal, it may be worth reviewing whether a different VHI plan offers higher day-to-day benefits for the services you need.
